How will Australia and India Face-Off?

Sidarth Monga in ESPNcricinfo, 5 December 2018 where the title is Is this the tour when Australia-India “rivalry” grows up?”

Australia the country and the cricket team have held a special place in the minds of Indians of a certain age. That certain age happens to be roughly that of the people playing in this team. We grew up watching Australia dominate world cricket. Everything about Australian cricket – the glitz, the hard hits, the bounce on the pitches, the sunburnt venues, the zinc cream, the commentary, even the advertisements – was loved in India. People barely remember the 1987 World Cup, but 1992 they do in photographic detail. Kids wanted to be like Australia, play like them, win like them, look like them.

Andrew Fernando’s Readings of the T20 at Pune

I. “Sri Lanka’s pole-thin co-operative,” ESPNcricinfo, February 2016

The pole-thin co-operative: Sri Lanka unearthed a skinny quick with serious potential in Dushmantha Chameera last year. In this match, Chameera may have played a role in finding another just like him. The second ball of Kasun Rajitha‘s career stopped slightly on Rohit Sharma, who spooned the ball just wide of the bowler. Chameera made quick ground moving to his right from mid-off, and dove athletically, both feet off the ground, to secure the catch. That first wicket sent Rajitha into raptures, and he would go on to set the tone for the innings with four more excellent balls in that over.

Dhoni’s Swan Song in the Test Arena: Three Essays

Sai Prasad Mohapatra … responding to the Cricketique Editor’s request

dhoni 33I. Dhoni’s Last Test Innings

The fall of Pujara brought Mahendra Singh Dhoni to the crease. We were completely unaware of the retirement announcement to follow later in the day, Dhoni walked in while India were 5/141. Still 19 more overs to see off and Dhoni had Rahane for company. Little did Rahane his partner know that he was spending his last few minutes with his captain on the crease. Johnson continued with his bowling around the wicket, and kept all off his 53rd over run less, Dhoni played out the first over of his last Test innings a maiden. 12 deliveries later, Ashwin joined Dhoni at the crease when Rahane departed to a pull shot — leaving the team in dire strait. The fear of late order collapses pretty much hung around with Dhoni and Ashwin seemingly the last hope of survival. Continue reading
