It is obvious that England and Australia have conspired to play a huge JOKE on all of us,the general public, in order to amuse themselves. Twenty wickets fell for nothing yesterday in the trial match between Hick’s eleven and Hadden’s eleven.
Then, to top it all,England is all out for 85 in the Test match at Lord’s against Ireland.
No doubt all of you are killing yourself laughing at their humour! Even I have to admit that it is hilarious. Presumably they will all continue the humour in next Thursday’s Ashes Test? ……………….Keep laughing ……………… ERROL

The standard of Sri Lanka’s first-class tournament today is so inferior that, when Sri Lankan cricketers graduate to play for the national side and are scrutinised at the Test level, they make greenhorn mistakes that should have been ironed out at club or school level. The top Test teams tend to debut players who don’t resemble novices and are prepared for the big league, while Sri Lankan newcomers look out of their depth and in over their heads, even 30 innings into their careers some.

I cannot believe that I have just witnessed such a clinical dismemberment of the invincible Australian one-day team. They were made to look like junior school novices. Cousin Ralston predicted this with the utmost confidence. Through gritted teeth I will concede that if Finch had inserted he would have won the match. On this occasion it was obviously an advantage to bowl first.
New Zealand will be licking their lips because they will not encounter either Roy or Bairstow. Bairstow is obviously injured and Roy will most certainly be suspended for high level dissent.No reprimands,no raps on knuckles but kicked out big time for several matches. No question.

He got a shocking decision from Kumar Dharmasena but so have we all. I will never forget how Tuffy dealt with me when I merely raised my eyebrows when I was given an appalling LBW decision. Roy did far more than raise his eyebrows and I would love to have seen Tuffy deal with him if he had been in the English dressing room this evening. His body would have been beyond identification!
That was one of the worst cases of dissent I have seen and Roy will be out till Christmas. Certainly no Final and no Ashes. Cannot imagine Kane Williamson or Kumar Sangakkara behaving like that.

Sri Lanka exceeded my expectations at the 2019 World Cup — a winless exit was a strong possibility. Dimuth Karunaratne’s men overcame the challenges set by their own camp to end the tournament with three wins. There is no criticism of this team for not making the semis. Not losing to Afghanistan is a praiseworthy accomplishment today for a nation that once won the ODI world title and were for many years considered strong contenders to enter the final stages of any ICC tourney.

Michael Holding has slammed the umpiring during West Indies’ loss to Australia as “atrocious”, while Carlos Brathwaite described some decisions as “frustrating” and “dodgy” and suggested that West Indies players are on the wrong end of decisions more often than their opponents. He denied, however, that the decisions had cost them the match in a hard-fought 15-run defeat to Australia at Trent Bridge.
The umpires, Chris Gaffaney and Ruchira Palliyaguruge, had four decisions overturned between them and Gaffaney also missed a blatant front foot no-ball from Mitchell Starc that preceded the delivery that claimed the wicket of Chris Gayle. If the no-ball had been called, Gayle would have had a free hit on what was ultimately the wicket-ball.

By the end of the third day at Kingsmead in Durban, Sri Lanka were three down for 83 and still requiring 221 to win. All indications were that they were heading towards another customary ending. The game was keenly poised, and If ever there was an occasion for someone to play Horatius at the Bridge, this was it. Early indications were that there weren’t any such gallant men in sight. Batsmen simply came and went. Among those dismissed on day three were Karunaratne, Thirimanne and Kusal Mendis; more or less the main gut of the Sri Lankan batting. At the wicket were Kusal Perera and Oshada Fernando; both threatening to depart anytime. If Sri Lanka were to clamber out of this latest hole, character, restraint, measured aggression and some luck were all needed in equal measure. Despite their well-chronicled self-destructive tendencies, this Test still offered the visitors an opportunity. The pitch was relatively benign and the South African bowlers somehow lacked the sustained menace to cause alarm. All what Sri Lanka needed was greater stomach to make a fist of things. The Lankans however, seemed unconvinced. Instead they set about doing what they were quite expert at. That was to self-destruct. Be it at cricket or any other, Sri Lanka stands unparalleled when it comes to missing out on opportunities which land on their own doorstep. And so it seemed, one more time!

Thomson had an unusual sling-shot bowling action. In fact, his father Don bowled with the similar action. Years later one of his sons, Matt, replicated that action. Don’s two other sons didn’t bowl much, but whenever they did, the action was similar to their father’s.

The International Cricket Council’s lack of action on concussion is in the spotlight again after it emerged an unfit Sri Lanka batsman was allowed to defy doctor’s orders and face the blazing Australian attack in Canberra last week.
It is understood Sri Lankan batsman Kusal Perera was theoretically ruled out of the second Test with concussion when, in the absence of a Sri Lankan team doctor, he was assessed by Australian doctor Richard Saw. The assessment came after Perera was forced to retire hurt in the first innings after he was struck by a bouncer from Jhye Richardson.
