Ugly Scenes Mar Exciting End to Bangla-Lanka Match in Nidahas Trophy

Andrew Fidel Fernando in ESPNcricinfo, 15 March 2018

Bangladesh 160 for 8 (Tamim 50, Mahmudullah 43*) beat Sri Lanka 159 for 7 (Kusal Perera 61, Thisara 58) by two wickets
Scorecard and ball-by-ball details

Mahmudullah, sublimely poised while chaos roiled around him, hoisted an Isuru Udana ball over the square leg boundary when six runs were required off the last two balls, propelling Bangladesh to victory in scintillating fashion. It is difficult to overstate the importance of his innings, though the numbers – 43 off 18 balls – bear witness to its quality. Incensed by several mistakes from his team-mates, maintaining his focus even through an ugly final over in which a Bangladesh sub was given a shove by a Sri Lanka player and Shakib Al Hasan seemed intent on bringing his batsmen off the field, Mahmudullah completed the chase of 160 with No. 10 batsman Rubel Hossain at the other end.

Jeevan Mendis’ Come-back Trial: No Surprise

Bipin Dani

Mumbai, Feb 16: Jeevan Mendis’ coach at Tamil Union was “not surprised” with his sensational comeback.  The 35-year-old leg break bowler, playing his 17th T-20 match after a gap of more than four and half years, took the wicket with his very first ball against Bangladesh at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka. Not only that, his first three deliveries yielded two wickets.  “We knew about his talent and were “not at all surprised” with his bowling”, Kapila Weerasinghe, his coach at the Tamil Union said exclusively.

Oddities in the Lanka Bangla T 20 Match at

  Kusal plays ramp shot

* In the  hectic high scoring match Sri Lanka bowled 15 WIDES... and Bangladesh nearly matched them

* Kusal Mendis beat Thisara Perera by a whisker perhaps — for Man of the Match though his scoring rate was less and he did not take any wickets [he did not bowl]

* Allrounder Dasun Shanaka did not bowl but rendered yeoman service at No. 4 with 42 runs in 25 balls at the rate of 175.00

* Shanaka and Udana marched in ahead of Thisara Perera and all three left Chandimal to bite his fingers in the dressing room. SO: who took that meaningful and effective decision to shuffle the order? Chandimal? OR….. Hathuru? … OR … Think-tank?

Move IN Wrist-Spinner! Move INTO the T20 Format

Why are legspinners so successful in the shorter formats?
There are plenty of factors that go in favour of legspinners in shorter formats.

Are you Agar jelly?

What T20 side wouldn’t be jealous of having Ashton Agar? He’s a lock for the Australian T20 team, with national selectors bound to further raid Scorchers’ bowling stocks just before the Big Bash final. His economy rate of 5.51 per over puts him among Big Bash royalty.
