Africa-in-Me. Kevin Pietersen’s Reflections

Kevin Pietersen, whose preferred title is “Three Hours that changed My Life” .

They say you’re not born in Africa.

Africa is born in you.

It’s true.

You could blindfold me, put me on a plane, fly me somewhere in the world, open the doors and ask me where I was. I would know immediately if I was in Africa.

I can feel it. Smell it. It’s in my blood. It’s home. It’s part of me, I am connected to it, emotionally and spiritually.

Where a No Ball denies a Bowler his First Test Wicket. Malinga’s Homilies

Bipin Dani … at http://www.observerbd.com/details.php?id=113533 where the title is Bowler bemuses if he misses the maiden wicket of a no ball: Malinga

England’s Tom Curran is not the only cricketer who missed his maiden Test wicket of a no ball.  There are five other “unlucky” Test cricketers in the list, but England’s Tom Curran is the only bowler, who, while playing in his debut Test, grabbed the wicket of the batsman at his individual score of 99 runs. In the ongoing Ashes Test in Melbourne, his victim David Warner survived.

The Epitome of Grit: Herath top scores in Sri Lanka’s First Innings

Building on Lakmal’s bowling work, Rangana Herath saved sri Lanka’s batting blushes in the first innings and ensured that his side secured a reasonable lead by carving out a pugnacious 67 runs. tTjis effort is suitably recognised by Krishnaswamy and ESPNcricinfo.

Rangana Herath guides one onto the leg side BCCI

Bowlers who bat a bit (as opposed to bowling allrounders like Mitchell Starc or Vernon Philander) can be broadly divided into two camps: blockers, such as Ishant Sharma or Devendra Bishoo, and bashers, of whom Tim Southee – who has clattered 61 sixes in 57 Tests – would be an extreme example. Rangana Herath doesn’t really fall in either camp. He isn’t built like most bowlers, of spin or seam, and like other short, squat batsmen he’s happiest playing square of the wicket. Early in his innings on Sunday, Bhuvneshwar Kumar swung one into his stumps, late, and was on the verge of appealing for lbw when Herath braced his front leg to make last-minute room for his bat to flick the ball to the midwicket boundary.
