A Lost Opportunity — A Record that Bangladesh missed

mushfiqur rahim Mushfiqur Rahim captain of Bangladesh and double centurion

There was one double century and seven centuries peeled off at the Test match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka played at Galle over the five days 9-13th  March 2013surely a world record! … and the indelible mark of a lifeless pitch. But Bangladesh also missed the opportunity to beat another record and overcome Sri Lanka at their own game so to speak. On a benign and lifeless pitch at the Premadasa Stadium on the 2-6 August 1997 India batted first and made 532 runs for 6 wkts. They considered it enough and declared — just as Sri Lanka at Galle thought that 570 for 4 wkts gave them an edge! WELL !! Sri Lanka responded to the Indian gift by assembling 952 runs for 6 wkts with Sanath Jayasuriya scoring 340 runs and Roshan Mahanama making 225. This still remains as a world record in test cricket. BANGLA therefore missed an opportuinity to enter best this figure. Maybe we should give some credit to the Sri Lankan bowlers.

sri lanka 952 total
