A Surfeit of Wicket-Keeper Batsmen?

Michael Roberts

Several of the cricket teams today seem to be loaded with wicket-keeper batsmen who are good enough to be counted among the best twenty-five batsmen in their country.

Let me list them

India: MS Dhoni, Rishab Pant,  Wriddhiman Prasanta Saha, Krishnakumar Dinesh Karthik

England: Josh Butler, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Foakes

Australia: Tim Paine, Matthew Wade, Alex Carey

Sri Lanka: Kusal Perera, Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwella, Dinesh Chandimal, Sadeera Samarasinghe, Minod Bhanuka

New Zealand: BJ Watling, Tom Latham, Tim Seifert

Noticeably, Sri Lanka has six! And half of them are left-handers.
