Sri Lanka named a 15-man squad for the five-match One Day International (ODI) series against India, which will begin with the first game at Dambulla on Sunday (20). Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) selectors have not named the Test captain Dinesh Chandimal in the ODI squad , which includes two uncapped players and two more recalled. Allrounders Thisara Perera and Milinda Siriwardana have been recalled into the ODI squad after a brief lapse while left-arm spinner Malinda Pushpakumara and the left-arm seamer Vishwa Fernando are the two rookies to earn a calling.
Among players who were dropped are the injured pair of Nuwan Pradeep and Asela Gunaratne in addition to fast bowlers Asitha Fernando, Nuwan Kulasekara and Lahiru Kumara, who were all part of the ODI squad in the recent series against Zimbabwe played in July. This will be the very first full ODI series Upul Tharanga will be leading Sri Lanka as the team’s full-time ODI captain.

Uncapped bowlers Malinda Pushpakumara and Vishwa Fernando have been recalled to Sri Lanka’s limited-over side for the five-match ODI series against India. The selectors have also recalled all-rounders Thisara Perera and Milinda Siriwardana to the side. Thisara last played for Sri Lanka during the Champions Trophy while Siriwardana made his last appearance against Bangladesh at home in April. However, Sri Lanka’s Test captain Dinesh Chandimal has been overlooked once again for the limited-over squad. This will be Upul Tharanga’s first series as full-time skipper after Angelo Mathews resigned last month.
Injured pair of Nuwan Pradeep and Asela Gunaratne are not in the 15-man squad. There was also no place for fast bowlers Asitha Fernando, Nuwan Kulasekara and Lahiru Kumara who played during the Zimbabwe series.
The series will start on August 20 in Dambulla.
