Two Incisive Broadcasters of Sri Lankan Cricket in the 1980s

Premasara Epasinghe in Sinhala and Somasundaram Skandakumar in English brought cricketing nous into their expositions of events on the cricket field  …

The Email Circular NOTE that I received from Samanthi de Silva: “Legends in Radio Commentaries whose voices brought cricket live to our living rooms when TV coverage was rare seen together decades after the inaugural test Vs England they broadcast in Feb 1982……..Premasara Epasinghe ( Sinhala ) and S Skandakumar ( English )”

A FURTHER NOTE: “I was in Lanka throughout 1981 on research work and watched most of the matches (live or on TV) between the Australian touring side under Kim Hughes when they played three 50 over matches and one Test match. After the Aussies had been undone by Lalith Kaluperuma’s off-spinners at the Oval, Skandakumar interviewed Hughes on the ground, Hughes tried to fudge and twist the truth …BUT Skanda simply annihilated him via a technical nalysis of two dismissals that was as incisive as anything Sanga has produced recently in UK…Michael Roberts
