Neville floored by Hodge’s Flying Bat, 16 January 2017

News Item in Daily Mail. 16 February 2016

Peter Nevill was hit in the jaw with a flying bat on Monday night before being taken off for his second concussion check in just two weeks.  The Melbourne Renegades ‘keeper was playing away to the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League when the painful incident took place.

Brad Hodge smacked a ball away to leg side as the Strikers chased a target of 171 when he suddenly let go of the bat, sending it flying toward Nevill.

As the 30-year-old former Australia ‘keeper was watching the ball head toward the boundary, the handle caught him unawares on the jaw. Nevill immediately collapsed to the floor with Hodge running over to check on him, and was later helped from the field with a large swelling on his right cheek.

Aaron Finch took over Nevill’s duties for the second time in two weeks, after Nevill was also helped from the field last Monday when he was hit in the head by the ball.

The Renegades were taking on the Sydney Sixers at the SCG when a ball from fielder Chris Tremain caught him on the head.

There has been no update from Nevill or the team on his condition since he was taken from the field in the latest incident. Melbourne went on to win the game by just six runs, keeping their hopes of tournament glory alive for the time being.
