Sri Lanka cricket promoter and chairman of the Sri Lanka Cricket Foundation (SLCF) of Victoria, Australia Dr. Quintus Lloyd de Zylva was conferred the Deshamanaya Mahacharaya (Professor) title at a ceremony held at the New Polonnaruwa Gal Vihara temple in Dehiwala.
He was a consultant physician at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and presently continues to practice as a consultant physician at the Epworth Hospital and Moorabbin, Melbourne and is on the medical practitioners board of Victoria as a panel member. Apart from his involvement in the sports promotion he has rendered his services to Sri Lanka in the immediate aftermath of Boxing Day Asian Tsunami of 2004. Dr. Quintus founded the Australia-Sri Lanka Medical Aid team soon after the Tsunami catastrophe in2004 and has since made 20 trips to the southern part of Sri Lanka delivering aid and expertise to hospitals at Galle, Matara, Hambantota and Tangalle.His social service at present extends to government dispensaries and medical clinics at Beralihela, Galbokka-Weligama, Hatton and Dickoya which the total value of the medical aid delivered is in excess of six million dollars.
Dr. Quintus is also instrumental in introducing the Victorian Government to the Karapitiya hospital and in the building of the Trauma Centre which is due to be opened at Karapitita in the near future. For the services rendered he was bestowed with the Australian Overseas Humanitarian medal by the Commonwealth of Australia. The SLCF under the leadership of Dr. Quintus continues to support young and aspiring cricketers and help to cricketers requiring surgery in Australia is also provided by the SLCF. – MSA
